How to use a screen as a lightbox
- Place your device flat on a table or desk.
- Open Tracing Light and tap the button to go fullscreen.
- Place your reference image on the screen, then lay your tracing paper over it.
- Use the brightness slider to find a comfortable light level — too bright causes eye strain.
- Enable the grid overlay if you need alignment guides for your tracing.
Tips for better results
- Use thinner paper — standard 75–80 g/m² copy paper works well for most purposes.
- Work in a dim room so the backlight shows through more clearly.
- Tape the corners of your paper to the screen to prevent shifting mid-trace.
- Larger screens (tablets, monitors) give you more workspace than phones.
- Reduce brightness slightly if you have an OLED screen — the light output can be intense at 100%.
